Brief about the project
Imagine a single parent, Sanjana, living in a bustling city. She frequently faces the challenge of ensuring her 10-year-old daughter Ria’s safety and comfort during cab rides. Sanjana’s constant worry revolves around the trustworthiness of the driver and the overall quality of Ria’s experience.
These concerns are magnified when Sanjana can’t accompany Ria during the ride. This scenario is not unique to Sanjana; many parents share similar concerns about their children’s safety during transportation in a busy urban environment. There is a pressing need for a solution that caters to the unique requirements of young passengers while giving parents like Sanjana full control and peace of mind throughout the journey.

The Challenge
When I began my journey as a product designer, I encountered an exciting challenge: designing an intuitive and secure transportation app for a startup named KidCabs, targeting children in Tier 1 cities across India.
Task
My task was to design an intuitive and secure transportation app for a new startup called KidCabs, tailored specifically for children in Tier 1 cities of India.
Identified areas of issues during secondary research
Driver Quality and Training
Inconsistent driver quality and training standards can affect the safety and comfort of young passengers.
Pricing Transparency
Occasional pricing inconsistencies or hidden fees may lead to confusion among parents.
Availability and Delays
Parents may experience occasional delays in pick-ups, affecting their schedules.
Security Features
Lack of security features like GPS tracking, in-cab cameras, or additional supervision during rides for an extra fee.
The Process
Post identifying the competitors for such a platform (i.e. PiggyRide) it was necessary to lay out the pain points faced by parents i.e.
Security Concerns
Child adjustment with a stranger
Time-constraints
I identified the main user flows and architecture of the platform laying out the basic features required for the platform. The platform should include
An intuitive design similar to existing platforms for easy use & identification
Kid-friendly features like entertainment during the ride
Make it easier for parents to reach the driver in case of any issues.
Live activities notifications to keep user informed.
Yellow and black were likely chosen for the app due to their visibility and contrast, which help important elements stand out within the interface. These colors are commonly associated with safety and caution, aligning with the app’s focus on child safety.
Additionally, the vibrant and energetic vibe of yellow, paired with black, can create a modern and memorable brand image, aiding recognition among users.
Onboarding
The Onboarding provides the user with the introduction to the application and aims to increase their trust on the platform

In my design approach, I emphasized adherence to the UX Law “Jakob’s Law” and the heuristic “Consistency and Standards” by ensuring a familiar user experience. The intent was to prevent users, specifically parents, from having to relearn a new platform. I aimed to facilitate an easy and intuitive first-time use, similar to their experience with other cab booking software.
The interface allows parents to conveniently choose their pickup and drop locations through recognizable features. They can opt to search for locations directly or leverage the map feature to pinpoint the exact locations themselves. This choice allows for a more flexible and user-friendly approach, familiar to users accustomed to various ride-hailing applications, ensuring a seamless and effortless experience from the outset.

Through the implementation of the UX heuristic, “Recognition rather than recall,” I intentionally designed the interface to emphasize and prioritize the user’s awareness of the platform’s commitment to ensuring the child’s security.
By placing and easily accessible sections within the interface, users can swiftly access and gather detailed information about the extensive security features provided, empowering them with a comprehensive understanding each time they book a ride for their child.
This deliberate design choice aimed to instill a sense of confidence and transparency, ensuring that safety remains paramount throughout their entire journey on the platform.
